Driftwood Liming Wax will lighten your wood finish and give it a look similar to white pickling wax. It works very well with Driftwood Weathering Wood Finish to add additional depth to your aged finish. You can apply as many coats as you wish to lighten the color.

Is Liming wax the same as white wax?

Essentially, liming wax is a white wax that soaks right down into the grain of the wood. This technique has been called liming of even ‘pickling’ and would have been used on the old oak beams in houses.

Can you seal over Liming wax?

Limed wax can act as a top coat, or you can coat it with a clear wax such as Briwax Original (available on Amazon; $19.49) to lend a more durable finish to wood surfaces in high-traffic areas. But don’t top liming wax with polyurethane or polyacrylic sealants, as the wax doesn’t bond well to these products.

Perfect to give white wash look. I think it works best over stained or striped wood without sanding. I striped varnish then used mineral spirits to clean followed by lime wax and it gave it the perfect white wash effect. When I use on sanded wood it was to white.

For a water resistant finish remove the excess Liming Wax using Liberon Finishing Oil applied with a cotton cloth and wipe off immediately. Leave to dry for at least five hours between coats. Several coats may be needed.

Can you add color to liming wax?

Liming wax is white, but it can be dyed using powdered pigment. Depending on the dye you select, it may be possible to use a wipe-on finish or oil to seal the wood.
